TANESCO to produce electricity from gas reserves

The power utility giant TANESCO have plans in the pipeline to exploit vast reserves of natural gas in Mtwara region to produce electricity, The Express is informed.
Tanesco Communication Manager Badra Masoud told The Express that plans are underway to tap gas from wells located in Mnazi Bay and Msimbati in Mtwara region, which contains proven reserves of 760 billion cubic feet.

Tanzania is preparing to host Somalia in the the second round of the Championship of African Nations (Chan) slated for mid this month in Dar es Salaam.

The game was supposed to be played on Tuesday but it was postponed following an accident at the Mwanza airport that affected air traffic.

THE coming of the newly proposed bridge that will link Kigamboni residents to the city, is not a threat in any way to the existence of the ferries operating currently in that area, The Express has learnt.

This was a key statement from an official at the Magogoni ferry who, however, did not want his name to be disclosed as he is not the spokesman for the company.

The Express had wanted to know why currently there is passenger congestion at the ferry, and whether this will not be a reason for the Kigamboni residents to celebrate the construction of a bridge in the near future.

Fishy business on the bus

FISH vendors have been incommoding Dar es Salaam residents daily through carrying their fish stocks from the Kivukoni ferry to various destinations in the city, in commuter buses, The Express can reveal.

The Express has witnessed several times city buses, commonly known as ‘dala dalas’ carrying both passengers and bulky parcels of fish picked up from the ferry fish market by vendors to take to other destinations in Dar es Salaam city.

Dictatorship, nepotism, create havoc in the Anglican Church

It has been established that some top dignitaries within the Anglican Church in Tanzania are the main source of conflict within the church establishment.

One follower from Mbinga, who spoke on conditions of strict anonymity, said that the top leadership cannot escape blame concerning the whole saga.

He said that apart from nepotism, another source of conflict is the fact that some clerics have been leading an extravagant life at the expense of their followers, who contribute from their meagre resources for the sake of supporting their Church.

Journalists should be guided by professionalism and morals to avoid losing credibility

With reports that Jerry Muro, the 2009 Tanzanian Journalist of the Year award winner – is in police custody facing allegations of having demanded a Sh10 million bribe according to the media, we can only hope that he - along with others – will get a fair trial as per the rule of law, free of any victimisation.

As we let the law take its course, perhaps it is also a reminder to journalists to ensure that professional ethics are followed to the core whilst performing the journalistic duties of informing, entertaining and educating the public.
