When Kaone reminded the Housemates about their pledge to contribute towards the stand up against Poverty initiative, a disagreement ensued between them.
Kaone suggested that the Housemates should take time and dedicate one night, each week, to contribute towards regaining the 10 percent prize money that Big Brother deducted as part of the punishment for the Food Strike.

While taking a break during their Choreography Task, Sheila teased about Tatiana's boots. She said Tatiana must have known that she would be in the Barn, hence the cowgirl boots. While still trying to ascertain if they were leather or not, Lerato interjected the conversation by calling it "Pleather". A combination of leather and plastic.
Sheila said the boots would be appropriate for a Rodeo. It was at this point that the conversation deteriorated to the Barnmates planning to ride Julliette.

Local Designers given international training

ABOUT 12 local designers have been trained on modern ways of designing to attract more retailers to buy their work.
The local designers attended a four day workshop at the New African Hotel in Dar es Salaam under organization of Swahili Fashion Week in conjunction with The Tanzania Cotton Board’s (TCB) Textile Sector Development Unit (TSDU).
Speaking during the workshop, Mustafa Hassanali of Swahili Fashion Week said training will help Tanzanian designers to produce first-rate garments that will acquire market anywhere.

Tax revenue collection for May shrinks

TAX revenue collection on local goods hit a low point for the month of May, the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) economic review report says.
THE Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has announced that revenue collections in May, 2010 amounted to Tsh. 386.1 billion, equivalent to 96.1 per cent of the target whereas tax revenue collections amounted to Tsh. 368.2 billion, while non-tax revenue collection was Tsh. 17.8 billion.

Stanbic Bank expands its wings

STANBIC Bank Tanzania plans to open new branches across the country as part of the bank efforts to bring financial services closer to its customers countrywide.
Stanbic Managing Director, Bashir Awale in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday said the bank would open new branches upcountry.
He said the bank would open new branches in Mara, Kahama, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Mbeya and Dodoma to foster economic development in those regions.
Awale noted that majority of business people especially local Tanzanian entrepreneur’s lacks proper financial institutions to serve their financial needs.

Chadema yet to attract more women followers

MUCH remains unreported on the opposition party in Tanzania Mainland Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), which launched its campaign last Saturday in Dar es Salaam.
The Express registered its presence in the event which was well attended by the youths particularly from age 15 to 35 and the rest who were mainly middle aged males.
This is an indication that the opposition party has not yet attracted a big number of women while rival Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) enjoy their firm support.

Use Kiswahili to save youth from unemployment

A Don at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) has urged the private organizations to employ local graduates who can use Kiswahili as a medium of communication.
Deputy Associate Director, Institute of Kiswahili Studies at UDSM, Dr Eliezer Chiduo said most youth graduating from local universities have been failing to get employed in the labour market because they are not fluent in spoken English.

Why do poor use cell phones more?

A countrywide study had shown that poor people have the highest proportions of their incomes spent on airtime on mobile phones.
Tanzanians irrespective of their income spend about 15% of their income on mobile phones, according to Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) and World Bank data. Experts put the figure at 30 per cent and there are reasons to believe that the less income people have, the higher the proportion that is spent on airtime. Some people have argued that this money should better be spent on life essentials.

Taifa Stars face tough Algeria tie

Newly recruited Taifa Stars' coach, Danish Jan Poulsen will have his first major game tomorrow when his team plays host to Algeria's Desert Fox in the first leg tie of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
This will be the first competitive international match for the Danish tactician after succeeding Brazilian Marcio Maximo.
Maximo, who was hired by President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete to transform Tanzania's soccer, had his contract terminated by the Tanzania Football Football (TFF).

Boxing Boycott scare looms over Tennis Tourney

THE 2010 edition of Simba Cement Open International tennis tournament is taking place at Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club.
The four-day tournament involving over 60 tennis athletes from across East African region, took off yesterday afternoon at Gymkhana, where players will compete for the top prizes in six categories.
However, the tournament came under a cloud when Tanzanian players declared their intention to stage a boycott because they said they were mistreated.
